What We Do
Burning Effigy Press was founded in 1999 as a way to bring fringe poetry, prose and fiction out from the trenches and onto the pages of chapbooks and anthologies. The driving force of Burning Effigy has always been that we are writers publishing writers. That said, we ain't in this shit for the bucks, we're in it because we love books and we love the scene. More so, we love writing that moves, frightens or forces us to think in different ways. We love words that scream and bleed from the pages and demand to be heard.
In March 2007, Burning Effigy relaunched with a new brand new genre focus and many big surprises in store.
What We Publish
Chapbooks, novellas and novels of the following styles:
Dark Fiction / Horror - Blood, gore, sex, twisted shit with a killer plot - yes, yes, yes, and yes we want it. Scare us, disgust us, keep us up at night.
Cyberpunk Fiction - We know "cyberpunk" is over, but we also know what you'd send us if we said Science Fiction.
Fantasy - Only if it's dark, weird, or funny...
Poetry / Spoken Word - Words with edge and grit. Words that are meant to be shouted or moaned from stages. Words that scream for revolution. Real world words.
Urban Fiction - no great Canadian / American novels, no epic prairie tales - keep it real, keep it raw, keep it subversive - counterculture stuff primarily.

How To Get Involved
Help Wanted: Graphic Designers
Burning Effigy is currently looking graphic designers to add to our freelance stable of talent. We are not going to kid you, this is essentially a volunteer position (with the occasional paid project). We all work for free here, we do it because we believe in it. You would receive credit on the site and any work you produce, as well as free copies of Burning Effigy products. As Burning Effigy's graphic designer you would occasionally be required to design covers for books / chapbooks, create web graphics, design flyers and business cards and perhaps edit or retouch a photo from time to time. There would be no more than 5 - 10 hours work a month, sometimes much less. Level of involvement is fairly flexible. Drop a bio / resume and some samples of your work to: mail@burningeffigy.com.
General Volunteers
We are always looking for people to help out at press fairs, with research and promotion of events, etc... If you are interested in volunteering, drop us a quick email at mail@burningeffigy.com, tell us a bit about yourself and what you'd like to contribute.
